Flexcion and Extension training vs. Rotational Training

When we talk about Flexion and Extension Training, we mean movements that increase and decrease the angle between body parts. Rotational Training involves the global left and right rotation of the body as well as the internal coordination of joints and muscles moving in conjunction with each other. The human body is a wonderfully constructed machine that flows and blends.

There are no straight lines in the body and therefore even movements in the sagittal and frontal plane can be considered rotational. As the muscles and joints articulate through rotation, everything happens in a synchronous order that can be described as the kinetic chain. Throughout this article, we’ll discuss why rotational training is a better method for achieving the greatest balance, strength, power & efficiency in your movements.

Benefits of Flexion and Extension Training

Flexion and extension training serves to increase your flexibility and stimulate pain management. Oftentimes, the pain we endure is a result of stiff, contracted muscles and joints that don’t want to move. Increasing and decreasing the angle between your body parts is a way of stimulating a movement that serves to flex and loosen up rigid body parts. This, in turn, increases circulation, improves your flexibility and will also mitigate pain you’re going through.

Benefits of Rotational Training

Rotational training can be looked at as a more comprehensive way of not only reducing pain and increasing flexibility, but also retraining damaged muscles, improving the kinetic order, enhancing your speed, balance, momentum and reaction time while also minimizing neurological downtime.

As you may already know, the essence of movement rests in rotation. The basic mechanical process of walking and running involves tremendous amounts of rotation in the joints around the body. Improving the order in which your muscles and joints coordinate with each other will ultimately deliver enhanced structural stability that benefits both horizontal and lateral mobility as well as strengthens the weakest muscles in your kinetic chain.

Which Method Delivers More Comprehensive Results

When searching for a comprehensive approach to improving your athletic performance, rotational training wins by a mile. Flexion and extension training while beneficial for certain reasons, doesn’t go beyond the concepts of flexibility & improved circulation. Rotational training capitalizes on a concept that your entire body operates on, which is the principles of rotation.

Everything you do like opening a bottle of water, throwing a football, taking out the trash and even laying down in the bed requires your joints to articulate through rotation. Therefore enhancing the body’s ability to efficiently rotate its muscles and joints serves to deliver tremendous benefits for athletic performance, quality of life and much more.

Take a moment to ask yourself, what it is you hope to achieve? Are you looking for better times on the track, increased endurance on the field or are you just trying to lead a more active lifestyle? Whatever your goals are, you’ll find that rotational training is a form of exercise that doesn’t discriminate based on age, level of activity, experience or anything else. Anyone with the proper tools can hop right in and begin improving their performance.
